Required materials: Fabric (cotton is recommended for beginners) and a sewing kit containing basic tools such as bobbins, scissors, thread, and buttons.

Note: Tutors do not transport, carry or service customers' sewing machines. Class fees may fluctuate based on market conditions but are fixed upon payment. (Terms & Conditions)


This self-paced course introduces foundational sewing techniques for beginners and provides guidance toward intermediate garment construction, tailored to individual preferences.

Topics include:

  • Sewing machine setup, threading, and safe operation

  • Fundamental stitches and seam techniques

  • Identifying fabric types and selecting appropriate materials

  • Pattern reading and layout techniques

  • Cutting and pinning methods

  • Garment construction processes

  • Adding buttonholes, pockets and zips

  • Finishing techniques, such as hems, edge finishes and closures

Participants will begin with basic projects and progress to intermediate projects as their confidence and skills develop.

If you're at an intermediate level and confident in adding buttonholes, zips, pockets, interfacing, etc., feel free to jump right into a project you're passionate about! There's no need to go through the introductory foundational skills; dive in and get creative!
